I just wanted to say Happy New Year to all my past, present and future customers and fellow contractors. It's been a very busy year and I've worked with some great people throughout the year. Looking over my 2014 year in review, It seemed like the economy here in Brevard County was on the upswing with lot's of activity in the residential real estate and existing homeowner markets. Which included a bounty of renovation, remodel, home improvement and repair contracts throughout 2014. For that I Am very grateful. Pool Patio Ceiling Repair – Tape Joints Coming Down – Merritt Island
This Project Blog is about a exterior pool patio ceiling repair on a home in the Indian Bay sub division Merritt Island, FL. This type of problem is very common on exterior ceilings. Over time the paper drywall tape begins to fail. The heat and humidity from the Florida climate and the added moisture in the air around a pool cause the tape to crack and start falling down. Over the years I have perfected the technique and best materials to use on these types of exterior ceilings. 1) Cover and protect the pool/patio deck. 2) We removed all of the paper tape from all of the drywall seams. 3) I like to re secure the drywall at all of the seams, just in case the drywall wasn't secured properly during the drywall installation phase when the home was built. 4) Install fiberglass mesh drywall tape to all of the exposed seams (much more exterior friendly than the drywall paper tape). 5) … [Read More...]
How to skim coat using the paint roller trick
In this Blog video two part series I'll show you how to do the first coat and second skim coats on a wall to get rid of an ugly poorly done knockdown texture. This how to skim coat trick is a great way for anyone from DIYers to contractors to apply a skim coat to drywall and plaster walls or ceilings. Skim Coating to get rid of ugly texture I'll be using the paint roller method with a 1 1/4" roller nap (cover) and I thinned down the all purpose joint compound with water. For skimming I'm using a 14" drywall taping knife and mud pan to smooth out the mud that was applied. Merritt Island – Wood Siding Repair – Exterior Painting
This Project Blog is about wood siding repair and exterior repaint on a home in the Diana Shores subdivision Merritt Island, FL. We were contracted to repair a section of the wood siding that had water damage from years of just being in the elements of the harsh Florida climate and then repaint the entire exterior of this Merritt Island home. First task was to remove a 2' x 16' section of the wood siding at the bottom of the north side of the home that had water damage and wood rot. After the rotten section of the siding was removed, we checked the wood framing to see if any of the framing need to be replaced due to water damage. No damage was present on the wood framing or bottom plate. Knockdown textured ceiling bubbling while painting lanai in Rockledge, Fl.
Textured patio ceiling bubbling, blistered or falling down? I've seen this issue quite a few times over the years on knockdown, skip trowel, orange peel and popcorn textured exterior drywall ceilings. In this video I'm scraping the areas where the knockdown texture and paint had bubbled. So today while on an complete exterior repaint in Rockledge, Fl. I was painting the first coat of exterior latex paint on the lanai ceiling, when the knockdown texture on the exterior drywall pool patio ceiling started to come off on to my roller nap. The ceiling texture had bubbled in two separate areas. It was as if the texture itself had lost any adhesion and all that was left after peeling the texture off was bare drywall which was dusty just like the back of the texture sheet that I removed. Soundproofing an existing wall to help reduce noise from home theater
On this master bedroom and bathroom remodeling project in Merritt Island, FL I'll be adding some sound reduction drywall w/ Green Glue compound and sealant to try and reduce the noise in a master bedroom coming from a home theater entertainment system on the other side of the existing master bedroom wall. On this popcorn ceiling repair project, I'll demonstrate how to spray and blend popcorn ceiling texture on an actual ceiling repair that had water damage from a roof leak in Merritt Island, Florida.
