How to paint a garage door
February 5, 2020 By Paul Peck
Your garage door is a HUGE part of the overall appearance of your home. Has your homes garage door lost it's luster? Is my garage door paintable? It's a common question among homeowners that have a weathered, rusted, chalky, faded or dusty garage door that's in need of a facelift or even just a color change that can give your home a different vibe and better curb appeal . Whether you're thinking about just repainting it or looking to paint the entire exterior of your home. I would recommend hiring a professional painting contractor. But painting a garage door is doable for the advanced DIY'er. I give this project a difficulty rating of 7 out of 10. You can get by with just using a brush and roller to paint most garage doors. But with these you will be left with some sort of stippling (a light texture or brush strokes). That's why I prefer to use an airless sprayer to apply … [Read More...]
Chinese Drywall is here in Brevard County, Florida

How to spray popcorn ceiling texture on a drywall ceiling repair
October 3, 2015 By Peck Drywall and Painting
On this popcorn ceiling repair project, I'll demonstrate how to spray and blend popcorn ceiling texture on an actual ceiling repair that had water damage from a roof leak in Merritt Island, Florida. I'll be using my GoPro while shooting the video. This will give you a unique perspective of how I spray and feather and match popcorn ceiling texture with a hopper and compressor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZF2_Lxw649E Prep- After I moved a few things out of the work zone, I covered the floor with 2 mil plastic and in order to contain all of the dust from the ceiling repair and the popcorn ceiling spray texture, I created a plastic bubble going from the ceiling to to the floor by using .31 mil plastic. Next, I scraped back the area of the ceiling where the popcorn texture had the water damage from a roof leak that had occurred while these homeowners were getting a new roof … [Read More...]
Water damage drywall repair after washers water hose bursts in Merritt Island
May 18, 2015 By Paul Peck
On this Merritt Island water damage drywall repair project I was contacted by the homeowner after their washer water line had leaked in the laundry room. Damaging one wall directly behind the washer and dryer. Since this leak happened in the middle of the night a 24 hour water restoration emergency service company had already come out to remove all of the water damage drywall, insulation and flooring. They also dried out all of the wood framing and tile flooring. Luckily this water was a cleaned up before any mold could start to grow. The damage at this home could've been so much worse. I've seen water lines to washers break with no one home and the whole house get flooded. These types of plumbing disasters can result in thousands of dollars worth of damage and plenty of frustrations to go along with it! After the plumber did the necessary repairs to the washers hoses the … [Read More...]

August 8, 2019 By Paul Peck
On this Brevard County water damage repair project video, I show you the whole process of doing a water damage drywall repair from start to finish. When the plumbing leak happened the homeowners cut out the area of drywall that had been damaged by the water. After they did that they realized that it might be a little bit bigger project than they really could handle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzG8VNXT_TM In My Youtube video I'll show you how I do the drywall finishing on this water damage drywall repair from start to finish. There is also a link within in the video of me applying a orange peel texture to this same repair. 1) The first thing I needed to do was square up the drywall because when they cut it out it was kind of crooked and just passed a couple studs. 2) Next, I added a couple of one by four furring strips to be able to attach the new drywall too. 3) I … [Read More...]

March 17, 2019 By Paul Peck
The Job: On this popcorn removal project. We removed the dated popcorn texture from the living room, kitchen, dining room and foyer ceilings of a home in Palm Bay/Melbourne, Florida. First task is to cover and protect everything in these rooms with plastic. Including the walls. Next,we removed all of the outdated and yellowed popcorn ceiling texture. Once the popcorn texture is removed, we repaired several failing and cracked tape joints and filled any holes on the now exposed drywall ceiling. After the repairs were competed, we applied a skip trowel hand texture to ceilings. Next, we primed newly skip troweled ceilings with an oil base stain blocking primer to insure good adheshion and beautiful bright white ceilings after the finsh coat of paint has been applied. Lastly we painted the skip troweled ceilings with two coats of Sherwin Williams Pro-Mar 200 semi-gloss … [Read More...]

Vaulted Ceiling Tape Joint Repair-Knockdown Texture Sponge
March 20, 2016 By Paul Peck
In this video blog I'll be demonstrating how to apply an all purpose joint compound with my Knockdown Texture Sponge on a vaulted ceiling repair. The ceiling repair is the entire 36' paper tape joint right at the vault of the open plan ceiling. Over time a lot of homes vaulted tape joints end up separating due to a few different factors: 1) These type of ceilings are exposed to excessive heat because of how close the vaulted ceiling is to the actual roof. 2) Sometimes when the drywall was installed at the vaulted ceiling the drywall hangers leave to big of a gap at the vault. 3) Another common mistake during the construction phase of when the drywall ceiling was initially installed without using the correct amount of fasteners which lead to the ceiling sagging over time and popping the tape joint at the vaulted ceiling. 4) Other times there is no framing member to attach to … [Read More...]
Pool Patio Ceiling Repair – Tape Joints Coming Down – Merritt Island
August 31, 2018 By Paul Peck
This Project Blog is about a exterior pool patio ceiling repair on a home in the Indian Bay sub division Merritt Island, FL. This type of problem is very common on exterior ceilings. Over time the paper drywall tape begins to fail. The heat and humidity from the Florida climate and the added moisture in the air around a pool cause the tape to crack and start falling down. Over the years I have perfected the technique and best materials to use on these types of exterior ceilings. 1) Cover and protect the pool/patio deck. 2) We removed all of the paper tape from all of the drywall seams. 3) I like to re secure the drywall at all of the seams, just in case the drywall wasn't secured properly during the drywall installation phase when the home was built. 4) Install fiberglass mesh drywall tape to all of the exposed seams (much more exterior friendly than the drywall paper tape). 5) … [Read More...]

The prices at Peck Drywall and Painting are very reasonable. I'm kind of picky but I would give them A's.
I have a stucco home that needed painting and some minor stucco repair. Paul Peck came out to give an estimate in person at my earliest convenience and was very knowledgable and professional. His estimate was competitive with the four other estimates I received and he was able to start the job within a short period of time. He was present each day and his crew is very skilled and courteous. They worked around inclement weather and kept me informed of any issues or schedule adjustments. I am absolutely delighted with the finished result and would not hesitate to recommend this company to other Angie's List members.
Called Pecks right before selling my home. House was 2 years old and had some stucco cracks and fading on outside and picture holes in wall on inside. Got an estimate fast, it was a good price to do everything I wanted and the house looks better than it did when I bought it new once Paul was done. Definitely highly recommend if you need any drywall, painting or repair work completed
Member Comments: The job went very well except for a few delays due to weather. Peck arrived as scheduled and began with a pressure cleaning of the entire house and also pulling the soil back from around the bottom edge of the house to allow for paint application down to the ground level. A 6 foot verticle section of rotted wood trim board was replaced at one of the house corners. A piece of trim board was also added around a window. Both of these trim pieces were installed very well and blended in perfectly with the existing wood trim.
Three coats of paint were applied to the entire house; a sealer coat then 2 top coats. The paint came out beautifully with fine attention to detail. The work site was cleaned up every day.
I want to express my great appreciation for a job very well done when you and your team fixed the badly damaged popcorn ceiling of my condo in Cocoa Beach. I am impressed with the perfection of the job, the professionalism of your team and the great price of the work. Your work is totally consistent with the advertising in your webpage. Definitely, I will call you for my future projects.
